Navigating AI Adoption with Confidence: FMP’s AI Maturity Model

AI is transforming both our daily work and organizational operations. As organizations adapt to its impacts, there is a need for a clear, strategic approach to its integration and use. At FMP, we believe AI adoption does not have to be overwhelming. With the right structure, guidance, and flexibility, it can be a powerful tool that drives innovation, increases efficiency, and enhances how we work.

One effective way to support structured AI adoption is through a maturity model, which is a framework that guides organizations through progressive stages of integration. Maturity reflects an organization’s capability, consistency, and development in a specific area. A maturity model can be used as a framework to integrate a variety of business functions, not just technology solutions like AI. The model outlines clear, actionable steps to move from initial exploration to full, sustainable adoption. These steps often include defining business metrics of success, training the workforce, establishing guidelines, and building supporting capabilities. A maturity model helps ensure that efforts are aligned, resources are used wisely, and the organization is prepared for change.

At FMP, we recognized the need for a structured and customized approach to AI integration, one that reflects unique organizational priorities and culture. That’s why we developed the FMP AI Maturity Model, a dynamic framework designed to help integrate AI with confidence and clarity. While we drew inspiration from established models, the FMP AI Maturity Model was customized to meet the needs of our organization and reflect priorities of AI adoption. The FMP model emphasizes alignment, collaboration, and readiness, helping to build a shared vision for AI that supports both internal operations while also considering the evolving needs of clients.

The FMP AI Maturity Model (Figure 1), is the result of collaborative efforts across teams, designed to be both dynamic and adaptable. Recognizing that AI is constantly evolving, FMP built a model that grows alongside an organization’s integration journey, no matter which direction it might need to pivot to. Its support spans our organization’s entire journey, from early AI exploration to strategic transformation. This model outlines six core dimensions: Strategy & Operations, Data & Knowledge Management, Technology & Tools, Workforce & Culture, Governance & Safety, and Continuous Improvement & Innovation. Each dimension is mapped across five levels of maturity: Awareness, Emerging, Operational, Systemic, and Transformational. These levels, which can also be seen as high level steps or stages, guide an organization’s AI adoption to support sustainable and impactful integration.

We understand that AI can feel complex, fast-moving, and even intimidating, but it’s not going away. Our goal is to leverage the AI Maturity model to help demystify AI by providing a clear, practical framework. Through structured exploration, pilot testing, adaptive training, and building confidence, this framework can help organizations keep pace and partner with AI. FMP is here to support your AI journey.
